Would you admit it if you slipped a snarky note under your neighbour’s door?

That’s the dilemma one tenant shared online after returning home from school pick-up to find a handwritten, vaguely threatening letter waiting under her door.

‘Could you please try to have (sic) your child running and jumping around late in the evenings,’ the note began.

‘We work early in the mornings and go to bed at 9pm. We work almost seven days a week and can’t sleep when all the racket is going on. HOA (Homeowner Association) has informed us to call police if it continues and really don’t want to do that.

‘Thank you.’

The exhausted mum explained that the note had been slipped under her door during the short 1.5 hour window she was out picking up her child from school.

‘We went around knocking on the doors in our building to apologise and offer my phone number, so they can just text me if it happens again,’ she said.

‘Sadly most didn’t answer.’

The few neighbours who did answer? The one directly below and the one they share a wall with.

‘Both said they didn’t leave it,’ the baffled mum continued.

‘Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.’

She also clarified that her son goes to bed at 9pm and is ‘never up late making noise’.

The letter was posted on Reddit, where commenters were quick to agree that one of the two neighbours who denied writing it was likely the author.

‘It’s easy to deny sending the note. After all, if they didn’t want to speak to you face to face about it, why would they admit sending it and then have to speak to you face to face about it?’ one person pointed out.

‘Good point. I just wish I could give them my number to text. Plus his bedtime is 9pm so he’s not up late,’ the mum replied.

Others sympathised with the mystery neighbour, saying they too had struggled with loud running and thumping from children in nearby units.

‘It’s a real problem. I have kids above and alongside me. Anyone that thinks we should just put up with it, isn’t being fair as it can be very stressful (we’re just trying to live our lives as well),’ one wrote.

‘I think you are doing the right thing by trying to sort it with them. Sometimes it’s not even you – sound carries in strange ways (I can hear noises from the top floor sometimes that I think are coming from directly above me as it goes straight down the stairwell).’

One commenter put it bluntly, and many agreed.
