A woman celebrating her academic success online hasfired back after receiving cruel online jibes – and won over the internet in doing so.

It all started when Juliet Turner took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the successful defense of her PhD thesis at the prestigious Oxford University.

She proudly shared her graduation photos – dressed in full academic regalia and beaming with pride – alongside a tongue-in-cheek caption that read: ‘You can call me doctor.’

The post quickly gathered hundreds of likes from friends and family celebrating her achievements.

But among the praise stood one sneering remark from an observer named Richard Cooper.

He wrote: ‘Just look at the degree on that chick – said no man ever.’

The bizarre and disparaging response, which appeared to suggest that women earning academic qualifications was not commendable, infuriated many across the platform.

And, instead of shrinking away from the comment, Juliet issued a scathing comeback.

It read: ‘I’m sure having my photo shared in this derogatory way would be devastating if my motivation for getting a PhD was to impress this guy and women-hating friends.’

She concluded: ‘Thankfully, it was not.

‘So I can just laugh about it instead.’

Sadly, many other insulting comments flooded in, ranging from‘you could’ve had four babies in that time’ to ‘no grandmother on her deathbed was ever asked So what was your thesis on?’

And the unsettling interactions ignited a deeper conversation on the platform.

One person pointed out that college has increasingly been labelled a ‘scam’ in recent years, insisting, ‘It’s not a coincidence that higher education has started losing its value in society’s eyes now that women outperform men.’

Indeed, 47 percent of women aged 25 to 34 hold a bachelor’s degree, while only 37 percent of men can say the same, according to Pew Research Center.

Dozens of other women rushed to Juliet’s defense.

Within hours of the initial interaction, women everywhere rallied round to offer their support.

Timelines were flooded with their graduation photos, framed diplomas, courtroom snaps and office door plates under the hashtag #justlookathedegreeonthischick.

The man who had made the original snide comment has not shared any further posts on the matter.

Commentators praised the trend as a perfect display of community powered reclamation, as one branded it ‘The best thing to happen on my Twitter feed.’
