Why Aussie Personal Trainer Recommends KFC As The PERFECT Mid

An Australian fitness coach has made a surprising claim about why he’d choose a fast food item over a protein bar any day of the week.

Melbourne-based trainer Louie Riitano recently shared his passionate take on why he’d opt for a Zinger Fillet Piece from KFC instead of the store-bought health snack.

‘KFC have been gatekeeping the protein snack of the f***** century,’ he declared in a lively

shared to his @louie_fitfocus account.

‘Simply trade up your protein bar for a basic Zinger Fillet, which has 21 grams of protein and only ten grams of fat,’ Louie explained.

‘That’s protein than your average protein bar. And it’s chicken. And it’s KFC!’ he continued.

‘So next time you’re considering a protein bar, maybe just get a Zinger fillet instead.’

The founder of online coaching business FIT FOCUS told Daily Mail he’s noticed a steady rise in snack brands marketing their products by plastering ‘protein’ on the packaging.

‘People get too caught up in consuming protein bars or supplements, and demonise eating fast food – when in fact, some fast food options are a better alternative,’ he explained.

Aussie fitness trainer Louie Riitano shared a now-viral video explaining why he’d opt for a KFc Zinger Fillet piece over most store-bought protein bars. The post shared to his @louie_fitfocus account explained that a basic Zinger Fillet has 21 grams of protein and only ten grams of fat

‘When you look closer at the ingredients in some of these protein bars, you’ll find an assortment of chemicals and preservatives,’ he added.

The point of Louie’s video wasn’t to advocate for regular fast food consumption, but rather to encourage examination of snacks marketed as being protein-rich food sources.

‘Sometimes the macro content is the same, if not worse, than something like a Zinger fillet! Often, these bars have fat than protein.’

According to nutritional information listed on KFC Australia’s website, a Zinger Fillet Piece per serve (95g) contains 876 kilojoules, 21g of protein, 10.5g of total fat, 7.8g of carbohydrates, 0.3g sugars and 628mg sodium.

Louie’s

has since been viewed over 300,000 times – but it’s also sparked huge debate among health-conscious Aussies.

Many people who would usually reach for a protein bar as a go-to snack were surprised to find that swapping some them for a Zinger fillet could result in a better macro outcome.

‘Tastier as well,’ read one excited reply.

One person even pointed out the financial benefit, replying: ‘A Zinger fillet’s probably cheaper than a protein bar.’ Louie himself responded to this saying: ‘Saving money and getting anabolic benefits.’

However, plenty of detractors remained unconvinced by the fitness coach’s argument.

‘The protein bar you’re holding has 18.2g of protein and 4.7g of fat. So you want another 2.8g of protein for another 5.3g of fat? The maths ain’t mathin’,’ read one reply.

Another added: ‘Although straight table sugar isn’t the ideal carb, I’d still rather eat sugar from carbs than fat from deep-fried chicken.’

A lengthy response explained that the big difference was that a protein bar is ‘made in a controlled batch’ with measured ingredients, whereas the nutrition info provided for a Zinger fillet is only an average estimate that could fluctuate depending on how it’s been made and cooked in store. ‘Stop comparing a properly designed protein snack to a deep-fried lucky dip,’ they concluded.

Others pointed out that eating a protein bar is ultimately convenient – and socially acceptable – than tucking into a Zinger fillet as a snack.

‘Yeah, not sure I can whip out a Zinger Fillet in my 9 o’clock team meeting,’ read the most-liked comment on the Instagram post.

‘I’ll chuck a couple of these in my gym bag for when I need it in a week. Lifesaver,’ joked another.

Some replies also light-heartedly noted they’d be tempted to order far than just a single piece of chicken at KFC.

‘This won’t work for me because I’m incapable of stepping foot into a KFC and not buying a Zinger Stacker box,’ one person replied.

‘My problem is I’d also get the large chips, gravy and coke to go with it,’ another agreed.

‘Who is going and ordering just a Zinger fillet without it turning into a full Zinger box?’ chimed in a third.
