Ford Recalls Thousands Of Cars Due To A Brake Defect That Threatens Public Safety
uaetodaynews.com — Ford recalls thousands of cars due to a brake defect that threatens public safety
The recall included two main models: 223,315 Expedition cars and 50,474 Navigator cars. This is for models manufactured between 2022 and 2024.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents explained that the problem is related to the possibility of the front brake lines (pipes that transport brake fluid from the reservoir to the brake pistons at the wheels) coming into contact with the engine air filter outlet pipe due to a defect in the installation, which could lead to: brake fluid leakage, gradual loss of braking function, increased brake pedal movement, and illumination of the red brake warning indicator.
Ford has not recorded any accidents or injuries so far.
The company is expected to begin notifying affected owners starting May 26, 2025, where they will be required to visit dealerships to inspect the brake lines and ensure the integrity of the installation.
If the defect is proven, the brake line or air filter tube will be replaced as needed, with repairs carried out free of charge.
Ford revealed during a review of its factory in Kentucky between March and April 2025, that a change occurred in the method of installing the coolant hose on November 20, 2024, to prevent the brake lines from bending during the installation of the engine.
The team discovered that some vehicles assembled before this modification may have been exposed to bending or friction of the right front brake line, which could lead to its corrosion over time.
To date, Ford has received 45 reports of brake line leaks (between November 2022 and April 2025), and an additional 4 reports from the field and customer service during the same period.
Last April, Ford issued a separate recall that included the 2020-2022 “Escape” and 2021-2023 “Bronco Sport” models. This is due to cracks in the fuel injector, which may lead to gasoline leakage and the engine igniting when it comes into contact with hot parts or an electrical spark.
The company has pledged to fix the defect free of charge and update the powertrain control unit software.
