A self-proclaimed ‘hardcore skeptic,’ Mrocka, 49, from Blairstown, New Jersey, explained that growing up, he didn’t believe in ghosts.

‘I always believed in something. I believed in God, the afterlife and that there was out there than just this physical world. But I never thought people could actually communicate with the other side,’ he said.

He explained that as a child he ‘always felt things deeply,’ which led to him developing substance abuse issues in his teens and 20s.

‘I found substances that helped me numb those feelings. It was easier to run from them than to learn how to sit with them, process them and actually feel them,’ shared Mrocka.

Throughout his 20s, he faced a slew of life-threatening situations – he overdosed on drugs, got into a horrific car crash and developed a severe infection that left him hospitalized for days.

But throughout those near-death experiences, he recalled feeling like ‘someone was pulling him back’ and like he ‘wasn’t alone.’

‘My 20s were dark. I struggled heavily with drugs and alcohol, and I had several moments where I came very close to not making it,’ he admitted. ‘Looking back, I honestly don’t know how I survived.

‘Those moments weren’t just wake up calls; they were turning points. Each time, it felt like something or someone pulled me back.

‘I realized I wasn’t alone in those moments. Those near-death encounters ended up being the beginning of my spiritual awakening.’

Eventually, Mrocka got sober, and once he ‘removed the numbing and chaos’ from his life, he said he began feeling ‘extremely intuitive.’

‘The sensitivity that had been there my whole life finally had room to rise to the surface,’ he explained.

Paired with his newfound feelings was a string of ‘odd experiences’ that he ‘couldn’t brush off,’ so he started ‘searching for answers.’

‘I started getting information that there was no way I could’ve known, feeling things that weren’t mine and getting validations that were way too specific to ignore,’ he said. ‘That’s when everything shifted for me.’

A friend suggested he go to a reading with a medium, and while he was ‘skeptical,’ he decided to try it.

‘The reading was actually really good. She picked up on a lot of details and evidence about what I was going through at the time and gave me some insight,’ he recalled.

‘Two days later, the psychic reached out again over text. Because I was so skeptical, I started typing, “I don’t have any money,” thinking that’s what she wanted.

Intrigued, Mrocka said he started working with a ‘teacher’ who helped him ‘develop his abilities.’

His first reading was ‘terrifying but undeniable.’ He had a woman hand him a bracelet and he said he started receiving ‘information he had no business knowing’ regarding her deceased grandmother.

‘During the reading, I suddenly felt this incredibly sharp pain in my left hand, and then the pain shot up my arm all the way to my heart,’ he said.

‘When the reading ended, (the woman) explained that her grandmother had been bitten on the hand by her cat and never took care of it. It led to an infection that traveled through her vein, all the way to her heart and ultimately took her life.

‘When she validated that, I realized, “This is real. This is happening.” And seeing her healing, that moment of relief and emotion, that’s what got me.

‘It wasn’t about the phenomenon. It was about helping someone feel connected again.’

But Mrocka never imagined being a psychic medium could be a full-time career and had no interest in building his skill into a business.

At the time he was working full-time at his father’s machine shop and doing readings on the side ‘simply to help people.’
