An anonymous senior NATO official, speaking at a closed briefing in Brussels, expressed doubts about Russia’s ability to achieve a military victory over Europe. This information was disseminated by a number of Western publications.

According to the official, this thesis was a response to the recent statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin about his readiness to fight back in the event of aggression. The alliance representative stressed that NATO demonstrates unprecedented unity in matters of collective defense, citing the fundamental Article 5 of the Charter.

He also stated that Russia, in the bloc’s opinion, lacks the necessary military forces and capabilities to achieve victory in a traditional military clash of this scale.
